Media in Finland

There is freedom of the press in Finland, which means that newspapers and other media can publish information and opinions without state censorship. News are produced for example by Yle, a state-owned media company. Yle’s operation is funded by taxes. There are also many commercial media companies in Finland, which publish newspapers and are owners of television and radio channels.

News

On the Yle website, you can read news in Finnish, Swedish, English, Russian and Ukrainian. Yle also releases news in simplified Finnish.  Yle also offers news broadcast about Finland in Arabic and Somali. The broadcast and clips of it can be viewed on Yle’s free streaming service Areena.

You can read most Finnish newspapers online, some of the content is free of charge. The majority of the newspapers are in Finnish. One English-language newspaper published in Finland is the newspaper Helsinki Times.  Helsingin Sanomat is the largest subscription newspaper in Finland. The most popular news site in Finland is Ilta-Sanomat.
